Research question/problem essay

Research question essay Each of you will be exploring one question or problem this quarter; after the TV proposal, all of your major assignments will somehow connect to this question, and these papers will all lead towards your final assignment, an exploratory essay.

For your research question, you will begin by formulating a possible question or problem that you wish to explore this quarter. You will need to have at least one other person writing on a similar question as you. Your problem should be something that is:

* Problematic -- if everyone already knows the answer to your question, it's not problematic

* Researchable -- You'll be required to find at least four sources related to your problem, so there should be library resources (books, magazine articles, journal articles, newspapers, etc.) related to your topic.

Begin by writing a rough draft of your research question essay; you may wish to use the sample essay on pp. 19-20 of The Allyn & Bacon Guide to Writing (ABW) as your guide. Bring the rough draft of your essay to class on Wednesday, April 14. Your essay should be about 500 words long.

You should post your research question essay to the course messageboard by Friday, April 16, at 5 PM.

After you have received the feedback from me, use the feedback to revise your paper and then email your research question essay with a PROCESS LETTER to the instructor by midnight on Wednesday, April 21. Your research essay question will be graded based on the same criteria as listed in the peer review questions above.
