A. Logline:
Forensic High is a weekly, drama series about a former, fallen-from-grace, crime-scene investigator who teaches science classes to high school students the only way he knows how – through forensics – from which the students end up learning and solving crimes.
B. The Basic Plot
Forensic High is CSI for the WB-Buffy the Vampire Slayer-Charmed audience, and could easily be called "CS High". It is a show that is aimed towards an audience that likes the forensics and crimes of CSI, but also enjoys the stories and characters of the younger audience shows, with just a hint of the mystery cases of Scooby Doo thrown in for good measure.
It is about Seth Rutledge, who for 15 years worked for the city’s crime scene investigation unit. He was good at his job – maybe too good – and eventually developed enemies both inside and outside of the department. During one of his cases, the evidence was tampered with, and a major criminal had to be released for lack of any other evidence, and everyone, including Seth assumed it was his fault. In addition, since it was an election year, the opposing mayoral candidate picked this issue to be his "issue of righteous indignity" and Seth was made the scapegoat and fired. The only skills he has are his science skills, and since no other police departments wanted him, the only place he could get a job was at a local high school teaching basic science classes, and even that’s only because an old friend of his is the principal.
When he first arrived at the school, the students were wary about him because he was a former cop, and the teachers were resentful of him, because he had never taught, and they were familiar with his background. On top of this, the previous science teacher was hated because he was so boring, so the students were only in his class because they HAD to be in it in order to fulfill their general education requirements. Seth thinks that science can be made more fun if it is made more interesting, and so decides to embark on teaching the students basic science via basic forensics.
Although Seth was fired from the police department, he still gets called upon to help out in cases. In the beginning he uses these cases to help teach his classes, but as time goes on, the students lives are often put in danger for what they know. The students also start branching out in solving mysteries on their own, which also leads to more danger and adventure. While the series will initially focus on Seth and how he came to the high school, as the students start to learn more about forensics, the series will transition over to being more about them. Each week will bring a new crime and a new mystery to solve, and there will be one or two mysteries that are long running through out several episodes.
