For your first graded assignment, you will be creating a 500 word proposal for a TV show of your own creation. Your TV show should be for a scripted, fictional show; sitcoms like Friends and Everybody Loves Raymond are okay, as are dramas like 7th Heaven and The West Wing; news programs, documentaries, and reality shows are off-limits.
What should the TV proposal look like? I've included some sample proposals in the links below to give you some ideas as to what might be included.
On Monday, April 5, you should bring in to class the first 250 words of your proposal.
You should place your TV proposal on to the course messageboard by 5 PM on Wednesday, April 7.
The next step for this assignment will be to respond to 3 of your peers' proposals. For each proposal, you should consider the following questions:
(1) What is the proposal's key point? Is this a surprising concept?
(2) What specific details from the proposal jumped out at you? What specific places could use more details?
(3) What elements of the proposal did you especially like? What elements of the proposal confused you?
(4) Are there any specific spelling, grammar, or fluency errors you can identify in the proposal?
Place your responses on the course messageboard by 5 PM on Friday, April 9. Your responses to your peers will be graded based on the quality of your feedback.
After you have received online feedback from your peers, you should use their comments to revise your work. Email your revised draft of the assignment to your instructor at EnglishOneZeroOne@hotmail.com by midnight on Monday, April 12.
You should also include your first process letter. For the process letter, you should write a letter to your instructor exploring any of the following questions:
(1) What PROCESS did you go through to write this paper? (From coming up with the ideas to proofreading your final draft, with all of the other steps in between.)
(2) What are the STRENGTHS and WEAKNESSES of your writing for this assignment?
(3) What PROBLEMS did you encounter when writing this assignment?
There is no specific length for the ideal process letter, but 2 sentences will not cut it.
